Thanks to Norway and Russia's strategy for management of the joint marine biological resources in the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea, and the close cooperation between the two countries regarding control of resources, the fish stocks in these two sea areas are in excellent condition, even on an international scale.
This page provides brief information on the condition of the main fish stocks in the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea and adjacent sea areas.
The fish stocks are assessed annually, according to the guidelines laid down by the ICES' working groups and based on research data and catch data presented by researchers from the different countries.
These assessments are mainly based on the results of the Norwegian and Russian researchers' joint research work, stipulated in an annual joint programme (Appendix 10).
The assessment of Norwegian spring spawning (Atlanto-Scandic) herring is based on an international research mission in the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea.
